Step 1 FEEL

- The lack of celebration and understanding importance about the diversity of culture in our community - smoke during summer - lack of biodiversity - excessive usage of electricity - natural disasters awareness

I choose to work with the problem of the lack of celebration and understanding importance about the diversity of culture in our community because my school is a diverse community with students from all over the world. However, unlike many other schools, My school does not currently celebrate its diversity and multiculturalism. Such project could not only be used to explore and experience other countries and cultures and promote cooperation between parents, teachers, and students but it can also foster global citizenship, international-mindedness and promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Additionally, this project can also be utilised to heighten awareness of numerous global concerns, ranging from geopolitical tensions to natural disasters and climate change.

People affected by this problem are students and parents. Students' primary concerns are school underrepresentation and the overlooking of their identity, as well as the limited opportunity to learn and explore diverse cultures. Parents' primary concerns are the school not representing and involving their child's culture and being afraid that their child will not experience their culture enough and become detached.

Step 2 IMAGINE

- A game show-style event - A fair with a flag march and performances - A trip outside school exploring culture firsthand

I choose a fair with a flag march and performances because a culture fair can be a day solely dedicated to celebrating and honoring the diverse cultures and traditions around the world, aiming to foster an appreciation and understanding of other cultures. It's the day when we can embrace different cultures, broaden our views of the world, and become open-minded global citizens. This event is not only feasible to organize and plan but also appeals more to a young audience, which is our main focus, and a culture fair will make learning about culture fun with many interactive elements and activities.

"I think International Day was such a great idea. Everyone was so excited to share their culture, and it was really fun seeing students and teachers carrying their flags with pride. Maybe next time, you could keep it separate from the PYD market, I think that would make it even more fun." - Xuhan Xie (Crystal) Y11 student "They said it was the best International Fair in years due to students organising the flag of nations and other events. It helped bring the community together." - Owen Heywood Mathematics and Service Learning Teacher

- we didn't have enough fund for this event so we compromise by merging with an existing event supported by the parent association -

Step 4 SHARE

I shared my project by organizing an event and afterward a a whole school presentation. This project was shared with everyone in my school community: students, teachers, and parents. All of their responses were overwhelmingly positive, and they said they are looking forward to next year.
