Step 1 FEEL

What are the living conditions of migrant workers like? What do they do daily? What do they eat? How are they treated?

Our migrant workers might not have nutritious meals which they need to be strong and healthy. We chose to focus on raising funds to provide food for our migrant workers.

Migrant workers.

Step 2 Imagine

We wanted to talk about the lives of migrant workers so that our classmates will empathise with them. Simultaneously, we wanted to raise funds for a charity.

We did both but focused on raising funds. We thought that the funds in the hands of a charity will be more beneficial for the migrant worker community.

Step 3DO

We did slides and researched on the lives of migrant workers. We learnt quite a bit about how their daily lives were like. We also started looking for a box and worked with our teacher to come up with a system of tracking donations. We also looked at charities that we could donate to. We eventually settled on It’s Raining Raincoats, a charity that helps migrant workers with their lives, amongst other things.

We managed to raise $30 and our teacher also matched our donation. Our friends also learnt more about giving to others in need, and learnt about the lives of the migrant workers.

“I learnt to put the lives of others before my own” – Gavin Ng I found that the group was enthusiastic about raising funds and wanting to do good for the migrant worker community – Mr Chen Jieming

We had difficulty coming up with a system to record who donated. We found out halfway that we did not know who donated what amount. Thankfully, we were able to track down who donated and what they donated and put the information down in a systematic manner.

15-30 Days

Good health and well being

Through awareness, we hope we can help the migrant workers get better living conditions and improve their well being.

Step 4 SHARE

We shared the project with the class. Our class responded well and continued to contribute to our cause. We shared our story with our class and our parents, and our immediate relatives.

We want this to be an ongoing cause and will seek ways to fund future donations. We also think that knowledge of this issue will help our friends learn more and empathise with our migrant workers.
