List the challenges or problems in your surroundings (school,neighbourhood etc.) that bothered you.

Poor hygiene practices in toilets among students, such as not flushing the toilets after use, toilet papers are seen throwing on the floor etc. Thus, it create an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience for students who need to use the toilets.

State the problem chosen to work and why.

We want to help to improve the cleanliness and hygiene of the toilets in school, so as to create a comfortable and pleasant experience for students who need to use them.

Who were the people affected by the problem? What were their primary concerns?

Students, teachers and cleaners were affected by the problem. Their primary concerns are the unpleasant condition of the toilets discourage the students and teachers to use them. Increase workload for the cleaners as they need to clean the toilets more frequently.

1. We can create the awareness and encourage students to take responsibility for keeping the toilet clean. 2, We can also design a cleaning robot to help the cleaners when they are absent or having lunch break.

Which solution from those listed above did you choose to implement and why?

We chose to design a cleaning robot that can complete cleaning cycles without the cleaners, so that the toilets are clean at all time.

Describe very briefly the process of implementing your solution(s).

"Cleandroid" is a cleaning robot to help the cleaners cleans the toilet even when they are not around. The robot will approach the toilet, then it detects the toilet seat and floor to clean it. The robot will also has an arm with a sponge on it where it can soak up the liquid on the toilet seat and ground, at the same time it can pick up small pieces of toilet paper as well as empty paper roll. After that, the robot cleans the floor.

What was the result or impact of your project?

With Cleandroid, the toilets are kept clean at all time. This is because the robot can help to clean the toilets while the cleaners are having their lunch break.

What did the impacted people have to say about your project? Provide 2 quotes or testimonials:

They think our idea is useful as it can help to keep the toilet clean. With the help of the cleaning robot, it can lighten the workload of the cleaners.

What challenges did you encounter while implementing your project, and how did you overcome them?

We had difficulty creating the parts of the robot prototype. For example, we wanted the hands of our robot to rotate so we tried using different materials such as ice cream sticks and straws to create the hands and experiment different methods to recreate the mopping movement.

Please explain briefly why do you think so?

We think that is important to have access to clean toilet and having good personal hygiene are crucial to students' health and well-being.

How did you share your project with your school and community? Who did you share your project with? What was their response?

We set up booth during CCA and introduce Cleandriod to the students. We explain how it works and demonstrate to them. We also will share with them the importance of keeping the toilet clean.

We are hoping to turn our protoype of our robot into a real one in the future and use it in our school.
