Step 1 FEEL

The migrant workers have low salaries which is not enough to buy nutritious meals leading them to be much weaker which also affecting their performance in their tiring work under the hot sun. Furthermore, with rising temperature, it will make them lose their energy faster.

The migrant workers did not have enough nutritious food and their dorms were not sanitary. We chose to work this problem because we wanted to help them and keep healthy and safe and give back to them for helping us to build our homes in Singapore.

Migrant workers. We watched a video about a few migrant workers and they were really concerned about their health and safety. They also did not want their families to worry about them, they even lied to their families when they asked whether they were alright by telling them their work was amazing and that they had good food and good living conditions. However, this was not the case. Their living conditions were poor and they have little nutritious food to eat.

Step 2 Imagine

-Making a poster to raise awareness about the migrant workers living conditions -Donating care pack to migrant workers

We chooses to donate care packs to the migrant workers. We felt that it would give them more food and daily necessities. This would also let them know know that there are many people in the community who cares for them know their struggles and many others who will also do their parts to help them.

Step 3DO

Our teachers helped us to get in touch with migrant workers and arranged a time for us to meet them and give them our hand-made care packs, as well as for us to convey our thanks to them

The migrant workers got more food to eat that was nutritious and some although were not exactly healthy we put them in so once in a while they can treat themselves with them. The migrant workers also would know that there were people in the community that care deeply for them, appreciate all that they have done for Singapore, and see their problems and would like to help them in every small way they can.

Although the migrant workers could not speak English, they could only communicate with us through facial expressions and body language but we could tell they were happy and grateful as they were smiling at us and graciously receiving our gifts.

Some of the food items our classmates donated were not halal so we could not donate them. We packed all the other items and luckily it was enough. Through this, we also learnt of the different dietary requirements of the migrant workers and be more cogniscent of their needs.

MORE THAN 30 DAYS

Good health and well being

The migrant workers living conditions are extremely poor and it really affects their health. In addition, their pay does not allow them to buy good food as they would like to send the money back to their home. Thus, this affected their health and physical well-being.

Step 4 SHARE

We shared our project with our class after we had finished and during the project. They encouraged us to keep going and continue to show care and concern to the migrant workers.

20-50

We hope that our juniors will do the same project every year and give the migrant workers care packs or doing more things that are more meaningful. Even though, the food was temporary, but our actions will remain in their hearts.
