Step 1 FEEL

Climate change has caused a spike in temperatures Students that feel hot and stuffy in small classrooms have even more difficulty concentrating in class due to the uncomfortable weather. Who are the people/person affected by this issues? Sporty and active students that often spend their time outdoors. They may suffer from heat stroke. How do the people/person feel? Some people might feel that their skin is very itchy because of the hot weather that causes them to perspire

We have decided to focus on how to help Singaporean students cope with the hot climate so that they will be able to focus and settle down faster for lessons.

People affected: Singaporean students Primary concern: Weather is too hot. It takes some time to cool down especially after PE lessons.

Step 2 Imagine

We wanted to come out with a cooling jacket. We gathered inspiration from the following: Space suits for astronauts Flight suits for military fighter pilots. Special suits under development for aviation and space exploration Special diving suits, especially for deep sea divers Windbreaker for everyday wear

We decided to go with windbreaker. This is the most fuss free and least costly.

Step 3DO

We had a few levels of prototype trying to perfect the solution. We also invited a few friends to try out the prototype.

We have not implemented it, but created prototypes for the product.

Classmates who tried it said the following ' Wow, it actually works' 'It can cool me down quite quickly. I need to get one for myself'

Observations: The fans and batteries contribute a considerable weight This can be quite cumbersome It is best to stay/stand/sit still so that the weight of the fans(and batteries) will not be knocking against the user’s body. We recommend that this jacket should not be used for more than 15 mins. If we are looking at longer cooling periods, we will need higher capacity batteries. This can translate to larger sized and heavier batteries, the wearer may not like the additional weight.

MORE THAN 30 DAYS

Climate Change

Climate change has caused temperatures to rise and we, students, are feeling the effects of it especially having to settle down for lessons in very humid and hot weather.

Step 4 SHARE

We shared with our classmates, teachers and some professors. They were supportive and interested to see if this product could come to fruition.

We hope to find ways to ensure that the batteries can be recharged in a more sustainable manner (perhaps using solar energy). This could also be sold in school bookshop.
