healthy problems in school

The most common cause of tooth erosion is by acidic foods and drinks. In general, foods and drinks with a pH below 5.0–5.7 have been known to trigger dental erosion effects. Numerous clinical and laboratory reports link erosion to excessive consumption of drinks. Those thought to pose a risk are soft drinks and fruit drinks, fruit juices such as orange juice (which contain citric acid) and carbonated drinks such as colas (in which the carbonic acid is not the cause of erosion, but citric and phosphoric acid). To make the society aware of the danger of spoiling the teeth because of the regular intake of beverages like soft drinks , coffee, juices etc.

Step 2 IMAGINE

Acidic drinks and foods lower the pH level of the mouth so consuming them causes the teeth to demineralise.. Carbonated drinks such as colas, lemonades are also very acidic, as are fruit-flavoured drinks and dilutables greater risk of acid erosion. Saliva acts as a buffer, regulating the pH when acidic drinks are ingested. Throthing or swishing acidic drinks around the mouth increases the risk of acid erosion

The experiment and investigation For tooth decay prevention decrease abrasive forces

Step 3DO

Procedure: Step #1 – In one of the containers, pour one cup of orange juice into it. Step #2 – In the second container, pour one cup of coffee into it. Step #3 – In the third container, pour one cup of Coke into it. Step#4 - In the fourth container, pour one cup of 7 up. Step #4 – Gently place one egg in each of the containers. (Make sure each egg is completely covered with the assigned liquid) Step #5 – Place all the lids very tightly on the containers. Step #6 – Label each of the containers with the date you start the experiment and the type of liquid that is in it. Step #7 – Place each container in the refrigerator. Step #8 – Keep each container in the refrigerator for fifteen days. Step #9 – Make sure to check each egg every three days and the first day you start the experiment. Check its size, shape, and color. After each check up, take a picture of each egg and jot down a few notes for each egg. (check on day 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15) Step #10 – After fifteen days take each egg out of the containers once at a time so that you won’t get the eggs mixed up. As you’re analyzing each egg once at a time look at their color, size, shape, and even inside of them.

as we discovered which drink decays teeth the most and how it does this. The eggshells decayed differently as to how we expected and each decayed at a particularly strong rate in a specific area. The soft drinks eggshell change colour, the juice eggshell changed a lot in texture. The effect of coffee on the egg shell was more.

Step 4 SHARE

For tooth decay prevention decrease abrasive forces. Use a soft bristled toothbrush and brush gently. No brushing immediately after consuming acidic food and drink as teeth will be softened. Leave at least half an hour of time space. Rinsing with water is better than brushing after consuming acidic foods and drinks. Drink through a straw. Drink milk or using other dairy products. One particular advantage of using a straw when drinking is the reduction of tooth decay. Many soft drinks have acidic properties, and using a straw reduces the liquid contact with the teeth, particularly the anterior teeth, reducing tooth decay and the risk of cavities.

• To understand how beverages can spoil the teeth and find out means to overcome it. • We can make children and also the adults aware of the danger their teeth might be in because of the regular intake of soft drinks and coffee and tea. • To make the society on large aware of ways to minimize tooth discoloration and tooth decay.
