Step 1 FEEL

In the school, we noticed 1. Cleanliness in the school 2. Insufficient playground 3. Low attendance of the students. 4. And among our siblings and neighbors who are in Primary schools, we noticed low learning levels. Students who are in second and third class are unable to read and identify words properly.

We have chosen to work on the 4th problem as we feel we can solve it with the available team and the resources. Moreover, among the first 3 challenges, the third challenge of Low attendance is also linked to the low learning levels. The problems 1 and 2 are being taken care of by the school HM and the Teachers.

All the students from classes Kinder Garten to at least 7th class were affected and more specifically the students of classes 1, 2 and 3, because, this is the time where they form the basics and learn the fundamentals quickly. If this time is lost, then it takes tripple time to learn the concepts. Their primary concerns were the lack of guided support at home, unavailability of learning aids in the houses. Only the books are the one source. The unconscious way of learning to happen then they should have the sight of learning material in the common places of the House.

Step 2 IMAGINE

We have come up with 2 solutions 1. Buying the learning aids (Kits) online 2. Preparing by ourselves 3. Suggesting the parents to buy 4. Preparing the kits by ourselves to the children and then inspiring the parents to buy/prepare.

We have chosen the 4th option because, buying the kits is costing more than 500 rupees for one child. We tried suggesting the parents but they did not show interest. Hence we moved to the 4th option which worked.

Step 3DO

After we have decided to make the Home Learning Kits, we have, 1. Concluded on the important concepts required class wise 2. Segregated the material which can be bought in the shop at low cost and the material which we have to do at school 3. Raised funds from Teachers for the material 4. Took out the leisure time and prepared the charts and fun learning models. 5. Visited the nearby primary schools and gifted them to the children. 6. Parents are informed by their respective school teachers to ensure the material is used.

More than 300 students benefited from this initiative. As some concepts are pasted in the common places in the Houses, the parents and elders started encouraging the kids to look at those visuals and read them loud. Some parents also started to ask for such ideas so that they can also do. This initiative PREACH has inspired parents and Teachers to carry out such activities to benefit the children continuously.

“ The posters are extremely helpful to engage the children. The charts gave us the idea to create some more by ourselves.” Parents expressed their thoughts. The Community Mobilizing District Coordinatro, Shri. Vidhya Sagar garu said “ Print rich environment is a common phenomenon in primary class rooms. But the thought of making children’s houses a print rich environment is really innovative, interesting and quite useful for primary children. Children learn and remember easily when they see a visual rather than mere listening. Filling the walls of children’s houses with reading material/charts is really a wonderful idea. In this regard I heartily congratulate the students for coming up with such an innovative idea and at the same time implementing the idea by preparing the useful print material by high school students and gifting the same to the students of primary classes. I congratulate the Leadership of the school and the Teachers for supporting their students through out the project. Children can read any time, many times and learn in a fun way and in an unconscious way with the idea of Print Rich Environment At Child’s House.”

Fund-raising was the first challenge we faced but our Teachers helped us to continue the initiative. Much of the material was taking time to prepare but we have designed them in such a way that the look of the material would not be compromised and should engage the children enthusiastically.

7-15 Days

Quality Education

Fundatmentals are foundation. Our project is focused on fundamental knowledge which supports the children in Home Learning. The PREACH initiative continuously engages the children consciously and unconsciously due to the readily available at hand interesting learning material.

Step 4 SHARE

Our project by its nature reaches the community through the schools. We have shared the project with the school, which supported us from the beginning. We have also share the project with the department officials. They expressed their happiness and congratulated us for the wonderful initiative. They also said that there is a lot of scope to make many more such material.

More than 100

We are planning to create an online document which has the details of learning material relevant to the specific classes. Also the process to do the interesting learning material and how to engage the children with them. When parents themselves start preparing the learning material then it our initiative will be sustained.
