About 20 Students in year 4 at the A.M.E Zion school were at a risk of repeating their grade level because they could not read.

The Students at risk of repetition, their teachers and parents.

Step 2 IMAGINE

A planned intervention program to cater for each students' reading needs. To carry out interviews for these students, the teachers and parents to understand thier plights.

All Solutions listed above was taken into consideration since the change agents needed to know and understand how best to help these students.

Step 3DO

Change agents introduced the said students to basic phonetics through a slow and steady process. Week after week, they used their community service hours to solidify thier foundation of the English Language in which the alphabets were conveyed to the students through simplistic and colourful books.

Gradually students were able to identify and say their sight words with no help. They started reading steadily through different spelling test and comprehension exercises.

Timing was our biggest challenge as it was not enough to finish our lessons with them. This is because the change agents also had lessons to catch up with at school. We decided to rotate the days for which each class is able to take turns to go and provide support for the reading program.
