Step 1 FEEL

-A large amount of scrap paper scattered around. -No designated space for students to express themselves positively. -Excessive trash accumulation. -Trays of food left behind after eating. -Trash bins overflowing or tipping over.

The problem I chose to work on is that students struggle to find a way to express or seek positive emotions.

Middle school students are affected by this problem because they may find it difficult to express their positive emotions or mindset freely.

Step 2 IMAGINE

-Create seed paper for students to express their emotions and plant positivity. -Design a poster to spread awareness about the importance of expressing positive emotions. -Organize an activity to help students understand and address this problem. -Talk about this issue during the assembly to engage and inspire the entire school community.

Seed paper is a creative and innovative way for students to express their positive emotions. As the plants grow, it inspires students and helps them feel more positive.

Step 3DO

-Create a prototype to test the seed paper. -Present the plan, ideas, and prototype to the SEL team for approval. -Work with the gardening club to request a space where the SEL seed paper can be planted.

All middle school students who are struggling to express their positive emotions.

To find the best seed paper, I faced the challenge of choosing the right seeds. I overcame this by adapting different Habits of Mind (HOM) and using critical thinking. I researched which seeds would work best, then tested them by planting different ones and observing which gave the best results.

Good health and well being

My story aligns with the global goal of Good Health and Well-Being because it focuses on helping students express and manage their emotions in a positive way. By creating a space for emotional expression through seed paper, the project promotes mental well-being and encourages a healthy, positive mindset. As students engage in this process, they not only improve their emotional health but also contribute to a more supportive and nurturing school environment.

Step 4 SHARE

I shared my project with my school and community by presenting it to the SEL team and seeking their approval. Additionally, I worked with the gardening club to find a space for the seed paper project. The response was positive—many students and staff were excited about the concept, and the SEL team supported the plan, recognizing its potential to improve students' emotional well-being.

More than 100

To sustain the impact of my project, I plan to create an ongoing tradition where students regularly use the seed paper to express their emotions. I will collaborate with the gardening club to maintain the space, ensuring it remains a place for reflection and growth. Additionally, I will continue to raise awareness through school assemblies and posters, encouraging new students to participate. Over time, the garden will serve as a lasting reminder of the positive emotional journey students.
